What Is Medical Microneedling in Hampshire and How Does It Work?
Medical microneedling is a clinically proven treatment that uses tiny, sterile needles to create controlled micro-injuries in the skin. These micro-injuries stimulate the body’s natural wound healing response, triggering collagen and elastin production to restore firmness, smoothness and radiance.
Unlike over-the-counter rollers, the Xcellaris Pro Twist is a professional-grade device used by trained skin specialists for precise, safe, and effective skin remodelling. It can be used on the face, neck and body to:
Refine skin texture
Fade acne scars and pigmentation
Minimise enlarged pores
Improve firmness and elasticity
Diminish fine lines and wrinkles
Am I a Suitable Candidate for Medical Microneedling?
Most people in good general health are suitable candidates for microneedling.
However, microneedling is not suitable if you:
Are pregnant or breastfeeding
Have active acne, rosacea, eczema or psoriasis in the treatment area
Are taking blood thinners or Roaccutane (within the last 6 months)
Have a history of keloid scarring
Have a current skin infection or compromised skin barrier
If you’re unsure, we’ll assess your skin thoroughly during your consultation.
Skin Changes in Your 40s and 50s – How Microneedling Can Help
Many of our clients come to us in their 40s and 50s noticing changes in their skin that feel frustratingly out of their control. Skin that was once resilient starts to feel thinner, duller, or slower to recover. Fine lines deepen. Pigmentation appears. Pores become more visible.
Much of this is driven by declining oestrogen during perimenopause and menopause, which directly reduces collagen production, skin thickness and hydration. It’s not a cosmetic issue – it’s a physiological one.
Medical microneedling works with your skin’s own biology to counteract these changes. By stimulating collagen and elastin from within, it helps restore the structural integrity that hormonal shifts begin to erode. Combined with the right skincare and, where appropriate, AnteAge MD Growth Factors, it can make a meaningful difference to how your skin looks and feels over time.
If you’re navigating perimenopausal skin changes and want a treatment approach that’s considered and clinically informed, we’d love to talk.
What to Expect During a Medical Microneedling Treatment
Your skin will be double cleansed and prepped with an enzyme exfoliant and antiseptic solution. The microneedling procedure itself takes around 20-30 minutes and is carried out using the XCellaris Pro Twist device with a disposable sterile needle cartridge. You may feel a slight prickling sensation, but it is generally well tolerated.
To enhance your results, we may incorporate a targeted mesotherapy serum during treatment. Depending on your skin’s needs, this may be Fillmed NCTF-135 HA for deep hydration and skin renewal, or AnteAge MD Growth Factors – a stem cell-derived serum that amplifies the regenerative response and is particularly effective for ageing, scarring and inflamed skin. Your practitioner will recommend the most appropriate option at consultation. This is followed by a cooling HydroPeptide anti-inflammatory mask and Dermalux LED Light Therapy to calm the skin and accelerate recovery.
How Many Microneedling Sessions Will I Need?
While many clients see visible improvement after just one treatment, a course of 3-6 sessions spaced 4-6 weeks apart is recommended for best results. Maintenance treatments can be scheduled every 4-6 months to keep your skin looking its best.
Is Medical Microneedling Safe?
Yes, microneedling is a minimally invasive, low-risk treatment when performed by a trained professional. Because it doesn’t remove the skin barrier, recovery time is minimal. You may experience mild redness, tightness or sensitivity for 24-72 hours post-treatment.
Potential side effects are rare but may include slight swelling, pinpoint bleeding, or temporary sensitivity. Full aftercare guidance is provided.
Pre-Treatment Advice for Microneedling
To prepare your skin and reduce the risk of sensitivity:
Stop using active skincare ingredients (e.g. retinoids, AHAs, BHAs, vitamin C) at least 5 days prior
Avoid sunbeds and sun exposure for 7 days beforehand
Do not have any waxing, laser or intense exfoliation in the treatment area
Inform us of any medications or health changes before your appointment
What to Expect After Your Microneedling Session
You may experience:
Redness (like mild sunburn) for 24–48 hours
Tightness or warmth in the skin
Light flaking or dryness over the next few days
Your skin will gradually feel smoother, brighter and firmer as collagen production increases over the following 28 days.
Microneedling Aftercare: How to Protect and Nourish Your Skin
Use only gentle, hydrating products for 5–7 days
Avoid touching your face until the next day
Use clean pillowcases and avoid makeup for at least 24 hours
